Italian Courses for Foreigners

The courses are offered in both the first and second semesters and are divided as follows:

SEMESTER 1

• Intensive courses – Courses covering levels A1 to B1+ – 4 weeks, 4 lessons per week (September–October)
• Extensive courses – Courses covering levels A1+ to B1+/B2 – 8 weeks, 2 lessons per week (October–December)

SEMESTER 2

1. Intensive courses – Levels A1 to B2+ – 4 weeks, 4 lessons per week (February–March)
2. Extensive courses – Levels A1+ to B2+/C1 – 8 weeks, 2 lessons per week (March–May)

Students enrolled at the University of Parma have a Study Plan. Erasmus students have a Learning Agreement. Students enrolled at Unipr must ask their Segreteria, Erasmus students must refer to their Supervisor.

It is the student’s responsibility to include the exam in their Study Plan or Learning Agreement.

• STUDENTS ENROLLED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF PARMA
  Students enrolled at the University of Parma are normally required to obtain 6 credits.
  These students may choose to include the integrated course in their Study Plan and take the examinations either in the first semester or in the second semester.

  To obtain 6 credits, students must attend an intensive course and pass the corresponding examination + also attend an extensive course and pass the corresponding examination.
  Students must therefore pass TWO EXAMS to obtain 6 credits.

  To obtain 6 credits, students must attend an intensive course and pass the corresponding examination + also attend an extensive course and pass the corresponding examination.
  Students must therefore pass TWO EXAMS to obtain 6 credits.
  
   
• ERASMUS STUDENTS
  Erasmus students are normally required to obtain 4 credits.
  These students have to include the course in their Learning Agreement, attend the course and take the examination either in the first semester or in the second semester.
  To obtain 4 credits, students only need to attend one course and pass one exam.

Now, enrolment is open for the courses starting in September 2026.

Registration closes on August 25 and re-opens in mid-October.

Registration is compulsory in order to attend the courses. There are two mandatory steps:

1. Complete the compulsory FORM. The form also includes official acceptance of the course attendance requirements. 
2. Take the Placement Test at this LINK. This test allows students to be placed in the course corresponding to their language level. Do NOT take the Placement Test if you are an absolute beginner in Italian.

Students are admitted based on the chronological order of arrival of their application (completing both steps according to the instructions). Max. 35 students per course.

In-person lessons are held in classrooms at the University of Parma, while online lessons take place on MS Teams and the Elly platform.

The final examination for each course assesses listening and reading comprehension, language use, mainly grammar and vocabulary, and writing skills. The examination does not include an oral test.

Only students who attend at least 70% of the course are allowed to take the final examination. The final examination dates are NOT those shown on the ESSE3 platform. They will be communicated by the instructor during the course.
